As Spring and Summer are upon us, VamosPickle starts to get excited about Youth events/programs. Hey, Pickleball is here to stay and only growing. What's not growing so much is Youth development. So, VamosPickle is here to create an energy and a vibe that teaches our Young ones proper footwork, stroke technique and mental approach!
One of the things I've noticed - after being around racquet sports for a very long time - is high level coaching for Tennis and more than not, lack thereof. Especially for so many kids who don't get the opportunity and for those that just don't get high level training if their not ''high level'' players.
Everyone is High level at a VamosPickle clinic/class/event. Truly.
VP ran this particular weeklong camp in Carmel, Indiana. Always full focus. Kids were broken down into groups - boys and girls play together - and we start with footwork. Ugh, I see such bad footwork in all Youth sports across the board. Especially Tennis and Pickle. Doesn't anyone use cones/markers anymore? And really teach kids how to position their bodies and use legs to push off? How to split step, how to track up, back, side to side? I get excited about this stuff.
Then we work on ground game. Forehand/backhand, drives and dinks. Soft touch approach moving into volleys! Not just your tennis volleys - you gotta mix in the pickle volleys that come overtop of ball to generate topspin. Finishing with Overheads targeting body position/awareness. Super necessary to prioritize location and power.
Mindset:
More important than everything aforementioned at VamosPickle is the Mindset we try and instill. There's a reason we live by the mantra, Vamos! Let's go. Let's play. I always focus on those shy kids who don't feel confident about their skills, their athleticism and their overall confidence on the court. I remind them the reply to any question that leads with ''Hey, can you play.....Or Do you know how to play...." is always, ''Vamos"! Always Vamos to anything in their future. This is a standard.
For our kids it's truly a way of life. We instill that mindset and teach them the proper way so that they can empower themselves. If we're going to play pickleball, then let's play it at a higher level and better than our Uncle Timmy who wants to play at the court he built on his driveway. So, we approach our Youth with the proper instruction so that they can continue to build and get to their higher level knowing full well that their receiving the highest level training. Some will be better than others, some will want to play tournaments and compete, others will just want to play with their friends and make new ones along the way.
Regardless of their path - they're all going to be playing the VamosPickle way.
You already know......
Vamos!!
